All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad

Congratulations to Cian Lannon, Sophie Olsthoorn and Erica de Capitani who have gotten through to the next round of the AILO in Dublin. The final will take place on March 20th!!

There will be a trophy for the winning individual and the winning team, as well as certificates for all participants. The top four students will then be invited to travel to Slovenia to represent Ireland in the International Linguistics Olympiad in July. In the two previous years that the school has participated in the competition Coláiste Chiaráin students have won a silver medal, a bronze medal and several commemorations. Hopefully this year we'll get the gold!! Best of luck!!!

Victory for first year girls!!

Congratulations to our first year girls basketball team who defeated St.Joseph's School, Hospital by 36 points to 28 points in the Limerick league on Wednesday 8th February!

Well done also to our second year girls team who put in a good performance against  St. Joseph's who eventually got the better of our team. Well done to all players and their coach Mr. Cathal Fitzgerald!

Spanish Exchange

Monday 13th February: The students had a fantastic time at the waterpark! Their next visit will take them to Mount Teide, an active volcano which is 3718m high!! Good luck!!!

Saturday 11th February: Today the pupils visited the natural park in Puerto de la Cruz. They saw a variety of exotic animals such as white tigers, monkeys and jaguars. Tomorrow they will be spending the day with their families and heading to a waterpark!!

Friday 10th February: Today the pupils met the Mayor of Icod de Los Vinos! They also visited Drago Milenario, a giant tree in the middle of the village! Tonight they are going to a welcoming party...on the beach!

Thursday 9th February:Today the students visited the IES Nicolas Extevez Borges in Icod de Los Vinos in Tenerife. Everybody is having a fantatsic time and learning lots of Spanish!!

Wednesday 8th February: Everybody has arrived safely in Tenerife! The weather is beautiful and all are in good spirits! They are spending their first day with their host families. Tomorrow they will be attending school and learning through Spanish. They are looking forward to sampling some of the Canarian food in Icod de Los Vinos. It is 22 degrees at the moment!! Lucky them!

We wish Ms. Sara Martinez, Mr. Christian Moretti and Coláiste Chiaráin pupils a safe trip to Spain as they embark on our annual Spanish Exchange. It has been a great success the past few years!! The trip gives students an opportunity to soak up Spanish culture while improving their Spanish speaking skills!!! Wath this space for updates!!!
