All Ireland Schools Choir Competition




Congratulations to the Coláiste Chiaráin choir who recorded their entry for the All Ireland Schools Choir competition on Tuesday 22nd May. It was recorded by Mr. Steve MacFarlane while Ms. Davina Noonan conducted and accompanied the choir. The recording took place in the beautiful St. John's Cathedral.

We wish our choir the best of luck in the competition this coming September!

Congratulations to our Build a Bank team!

Congratulations to all form IV students who had their awards ceremony on Monday 28th May. A great night was had by all!! Thank you to Mr. James O Shaughnessy, Dean Form IV, his Assistant Deans and teachers, Mr. Stephen MacFarlane, Mr. James Galvin, Mr. Matt Kelly and Mr. Conor Power who all made the night possible. Appreciation and recognition must also be given to Mr. Noel Malone (Principal) and Mr. Gerard O Sullivan (Deputy Principal) for the wonderful evening.

The night showcased a multitude of events that took place over the year including the American and Spanish exchanges, The Gaisce Award trip to Killarney and the annual trip to Killary. The students got the opportunity to speak about their fourth year experience in front of family and friends who attended the evening. The evening provided many memorable moments with many students experiencing the wrath of the dreaded Year Heads speech.

Congratulations to all Form IV students who received a number of awards in recognition of their participation in a number of different events, in particular, Karla Byrnes (Student of the Year 2012 Form IV), Lorraine O’Connor (Leadership Qualities 2012), Niamh O’Connor and Roisin Malone (Work Experience award) , Fiona Cronin (Academic Achievement 2012) , Erica Di Capitani  (Best Junior Certificate Results) and Michael O’Shea who won   (Gaeilgeoir na hIdirbhliana 2012).

A special word of thanks must go to our Parents Council, headed by Ms. Erica Shanley, and all the parents who provided delicious refreshments on the night!! They also provided refreshments for our Form VI graduation last week and we are truly grateful for their time and dedication in recent times and of course, throughout whole year!!

This ceremony was the first of its kind in Coláiste Chiaráin and it is a tradition that will long continue into our new school!!

Coláiste Chiaráin held its annual graduation ceremony on Thursday 24th May 2012. Over 120 students took part in the event which took place in the Croom Community Centre. The students looked marvellous on the day due to their cap and gown attire. There was great entertainment provided by the school choir and graduating students. Thank you to teachers, Ms. Davina Noonan and Mr. Stephen MacFarlane who accompanied and provided sound for the students during their performances.

The affair was organised to give our sixth years a memorable and caring send off and that was certainly achieved. There was a PowerPoint presentation consisting of photographs from a variety of occasions and excursions during the student’s six years in the school along with speeches from pupils and management. There was no shortage of tears during the emotional display!

There were numerous awards presented to students who excelled in different areas. Mark Noble received The Student of Year Award. Cian Lannon, Kevin Conneely and Stephen Power received the awards for Mathematics, Irish and English respectively while Lisa Hickey won the award for Best Contribution to the School Musical which is staged annually in the University of Limerick Concert Hall. Every graduate left the school with a personally engraved medallion along with a year group photo.

The event was conducted in a nostalgic and reflective manner. There were 500 people in attendance consisting of students, teachers, family and friends. A heartfelt thank you must be given to Mr. Cathal Fitzgerald, Ms. Davina Noonan and Mr. Stephen MacFarlane who organised the exceptional occasion. Appreciation and recognition must also be given to Mr. Noel Malone (Principal) and Mr. Gerard O’Sullivan (Deputy Principal) for the wonderful day. Special thanks must also go  to our Parents Council and to all of the Parents who contributed towards the catering and assisted in many other way to help make this event so successful and enjoyable for all present. The whole ceremony was our most successful so far and it is a tradition that will long continue into our new school.

Congratulations to Evan Carey, From I who came third in the post primary schools Le Crunch competition. The piece entitled "Abstract Apples" was judged by some of Ireland top photographers!!!

Coláiste Chiaráin awarded funding from NAPD for innovative on-line TV station


Be sure to listen to Limericks Live 95 FM on Wednesday 23rd May at approximately 9.20 AM. Mr. Matt Kelly will be chatting with Mr Joe Nash in relation to Click Click TV who are being recognised for the achievements by the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals.

Click Click TV, the pioneering on-line television station run by students of Coláiste Chiaráin in Croom, has received a €3,000 grant towards equipment from the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD).
