Success at Scifest 2012

Coláiste Chiaráin students had a great day at the Limerick Institute of Technology yesterday. They took part in Scifest which is a science project competition where students must investigate a problem/ question or idea they have. The students carried out experimental work, research and surveys with full analysis of each aspect of the project.

We had a range of projects including; a study of the effect of music on memory, does the proximity to an urban centre affect the pH level of acid rain, Braking distances in cars, Electromagnetism and plant growth, the effect of colours on humans and a project to develop a technique to remove heavy metals from water using lichens.

All the projects were completed to a very high standard.  The students then attended a one day science exhibition in LIT where they were interviewed by a selection of judges about their projects.  They also had to produce a display for the exhibition.

Congratulations to Eoin Hayes who got second prize in the Junior Physical Sciences section for his study of Electromagnetism and plant growth. Gavin Moloney was Highly Commended by judges for his work on loads and braking distances

There were 6 projects in total from Coláiste Chiaráin at Scifest 2012 in LIT and well done to all involved.
