Annual Sports Day



Coláiste Chiaráin will hold its Annual Sports Day at the University of Limerick Arena on Friday 30th March. All students from first year to sixth year  will take part. Sport plays a vital role in the school and the Sports Day certainly showcases the sporting prowess and extra curricular excellence of our students!

The day will see a variety of sports being played including; rowing, swimming, shot putt, the long jump and obstacle courses. Each class will act as a team and win points for their class as well as medals and awards.

This hugely anticipated students V teachers events will be as competitive as ever!!!

A special thanks must be given to the PE department for all their hard work in organising such a big event! Watch this space for updates!!

American Exchange

Saturday 7th April: Unfortunately today was time for goodbyes! :( Our American friends headed home and there was no shortage of tears. Farewells were exchanged and future plans were discussed. Plenty of memories were made on this exchange and it will continue for many years to come!!

Thursday 5th April: Today history was made by the Limerick2Limerick exchange, they all met the President of Ireland, Mr. Michael D. Higgins. An absolutley spectacular day was had by all as they saw Áras an Uachataráin from the inside!! The staff at the residence were exceptional as they let our pupils take their own tour!! Wednesday 4th April: Today the group left the island by ferry and travelled to Killary adventure centre.

Tuesday 3rd April: The pupils took a ferry from Ros a Mhíl over to Aran Mór, one of the Aran islands off the west coast of Ireland. They toured the island and enjoyed an evening BBQ!!

Monday 2nd April: Today the students took a trip to the capital, Dublin. They visited Dáil Éireann and Áras an Uachtaráin (President's residence). They then did what they do best...Shopping!! Another fantastic day was had!!

Saturday 31st March: Today everybody headed off to Kerry!!! The first stop was Dingle, a beautiful town situated along the coast. Here pupils had the opportunity to take in the beautiful views and visit some shops. A certain amount of pupils decided to tickle their taste buds by trying the "healthy" snack, a deep fried Mars bar!! The next stop was Killarney and the bus journey there was amazing as the views of the country side were breath taking!! Once in Killarney, everybody headed straight for the Killlarney Outlet Centre where a lot of shopping was done!!!



Friday 30th March: Today was the much anticipated annual sports day! It was held in the University of Limerick where a variety of sports were played including events where teachers played students!! The teachers won the basketball match while the students won the soccer! Everybody had a great day and plenty of medals were won!!


Thursday 29th March: Today the group visited Lahinch Co. Clare. They had an amazing day as they went surfing and viewed the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. The also visited Liscannor where they had their lunch!

Wednesday 28th March: Today the pupils and teachers of Spring-ford High gave a presentation in The Mill Campus centre which focused on their day to day activities in Pennsylvania. They then travelled to Adare village for photos and a quick bit of sight-seeing. The group went on to visit the beautiful city of Cork where they spent the day shopping in the sun!! When they arrived home, everybody headed to the Locke Bar where a night of entertainment ensued by our resident Trad group and other guests. Another great had was had by all!!

Tuesday 27th March: The day began with students attending a variety of classes. They then headed off into O'Connell avenue in Limerick City to visit the Model Elementary school. Our American pupils really enjoyed this experience as the Model teaches and learns everything through the Irish language. Afterwards, everybody made their way to the University of Limerick for a demonstration of popular Irish sports i.e. Hurling! Thanks to Mr. Hanley, Mr. Galvin and Richie Flannery for showcasing our national sport!!


Monday 26th March: Today our friends from Springford-High joined us in a welcome breakfast which took place in the school. A great morning was had by all as they received their personalised fleeces, were entertained by our in house choir and trad group and reminisced on the past while viewing footage from Coláiste Chiaráin's visit to the states last October.After the students attended a few classes, they visited Limerick city. They saw the Treaty Stone, visted King John's Castle and even met with the Mayor of Limerick Councillor Jim Long. They all had an amazing day, and this is only the beginning!!!


On Saturday 24th March students and teachers from Spring-ford High School, USA, will be arriving in Ireland as part of our annual exchange programme with the school. After the success of last year's exchange programme, our 4th year students together with their families are looking forward to meeting the Spring-ford students who hail from the district of Limerick,Pennslyvania. They will be with us for two weeks and their visit will take in numerous sites and attractions from all over Ireland. They will also spend much of their second week in the school where they will shadow students in numerous lessons. Watch this space to follow the progress of the students travels and experiences over the coming two weeks!!

F1 in schools success!


Congratulations to our F1 in schools teams. Team Ecovate took the award for best website and Team Lightning Hawk made it though to the national finals! Well done to all the staff and students involved!

Mini Company Success


The final of the County Limerick Student Enterprise Competition took place last Wednesday in the Woodlands Hotel, Adare.  Representing the school were three Transition Year Companies, "Less Mess", Ms Stacks class, "The Line King", Mr Flannery's class and "Hammertime", Mr Fitzgeralds class.

Each company was placed in the Senior Category where they were competing against 30 other Mini Companies from all over County Limerick.
Congratulations to Ms. Stack's Mini Company "Less Mess" who were delighted to come away with the award for "Best Business Plan".  Representing the team on the day were; Kevin Montgomery, Grace Walsh, Kristin Doyle and Keelan Stevenson.
Well done to all!!!

Italian Exchange Announced
