Competition Time!

News of four amazing competitions running at the moment:
Doodle4Google
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
Scratch
National Mock Trial / Television / Newspaper reporter.
Competition: Doodle4Google
The Challenge: Design a logo for Google Ireland. You can use a computer OR paint/crayon/felt tip/pencil etc.
Entry Restrictions: Open to any age but the school can only enter the six best doodles.
The Prizes: 75 Notebook computers, Google Goody Bags, technology grant for the school.
Deadline: 9 December.

Competition: Rotary Youth Leadership - once in a lifetime experience on offer.
The Challenge: Fill out an application and attend an interview in the school to display your skills as a young leader.
Entry Restrictions: You must be 15 or over and you must have been under 18 by the end of February 2011.
The Prizes: Youth leadership training in Dublin & Belfast. Participation in the Euroscola Programme in at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. 25 students will represent Ireland and meet students from around the world.
Deadline: 1 November

The Challenge: Design a scratch game or animation
Entry Restrictions: The school can enter a maximum of 10 scratch projects.
The Prizes: €500 cash for the student or team of students that produce the best game & €500 for the best animation.
Deadline: 12th March 2012
Competition: National Mock Trial Competition - for the legal eagles!
The Challenge: Thee competions: 1: To win the mock trial following training from a qualified Barrister. Students will take on another school in a real courthouse judged by a panel of real court judges.
Competition 2: To be the best court reporter (write a newspaper article based on the mock trial.
Competition 3: Television Reporter: Record a report on the case on camera.
Entry Restrictions: The students must form a team and fund-raise / get sponsorship of €600. They must take part in one day law course in the school. The course will be delivered by a Barrister who has previously judged the competition. Afterwards the students will complete an exam which will be marked by qualified Barristers. The team will be selected based on feedback from the course and the teacher's opinion.
The Prizes: Winning Irish team go to New York to compete in the Word Schools Mock Trial Competition.
Deadline: If the school is entering a team must be formed by 14th November.

Spanish Exchange

Coláiste Chiaráin's Spanish exchange kicks off tomorrow with the arrival of our Spanish counterparts!!There will be twenty pupils in total as well as teachers. A presentation and breakfast is arranged for them in the morning. There will then be a welcoming party in The Locke Bar tomorrow evening at 7.30pm where our very own Trad group will provide the entertainment!! Watch this space for updates and photos!! Thanks to Ms. Jean Cusack and Ms. Sara Martinez for organising this event!!

Bienvenida!!

Coláiste Chiaráin would like to extend a very warm welcome to the Spanish exchange students and their teachers!! They arrived safely in Ireland last night and were in school bright and early this morning!! The day kicked off with a presentation from Coláiste Chiaráin pupils about our heritage and traditions! Our in house trad group gave a stunning performance under the direction of Ms. Aibhin Holden while Anna Leonard and Shauna Flaherty performed some beautiful Irish dancing! The Spanish students will shadow their Irish partners today which will include attending some classes and experiencing the Irish school day! The craic will continue this evening in The Locke Bar where a "session" will take place at 7.30pm. All are welcome!

Senior Golf Team

Best of luck to Coláiste Chiaráin's senior Golf team!! Jack Ryan, Owen O’Brien, Dan Lucey, Colin O’Sullivan and Dean Gillane will be playing in the Munster semi final and hopefully the final on Thursday 27th November in Mitchelstown. We wish them all the best of luck!!!!

Geography Field Trip

Fifty-three leaving certificate geography students went to Liscannor Bay yesterday. They measured the height of cliffs and examined features of erosion such as caves and headlands. This study is worth 20% of their final exam!! Thanks to Mr. Ryan, Mr. Lynch and Mr. Browne who accompanied the students!!

Día 2-Friday 28th October

Today the students will embark on a tour of Limerick City. They will begin on O Connell Avenue with a visit to An Modhscoil and continue on to King John's castle! The group will then head for Co. Clare where they will visit the beautiful Bunratty Castle and Folk Park!! We hope they enjoy their day!!
