History made in Coláiste Chiaráin!

The day of the Junior Cert results was an extra special day for our principal Mr. Noel Malone. He had the added pleasure of presenting his children Noel, Roisin and Grainne with their results.

The trio hit the headlines back in 1996 when they made front page news both in the Limerick Leader and national papers after they were the first triplets to be born that year.

Fifteen years on and it was a case of  joy again when they passed their first major academic milestone.

“It was a nervous time for the Malone household. Even though I have been doing this now for 13 years, when it comes to your own door, obviously it’s a big thing,” said Mr Malone on the day.

“There were tears of joy, thankfully. Their mum Siobhan and the family are delighted. There is great credit due to the staff over the years,” he added.

Noel Jnr received a manly handshake and a big smile from his proud dad when handed the all important piece of paper.

“I’m delighted. I got nine honours. I wasn’t that nervous at first but it hit me on the day," smiled the teenager, the eldest of the triplets.

Auditions going well!!

Biology Trip

A group of our fifth and sixth year biology students headed off to Killarney National Park to do a study of an ecosystem as part of their Leaving Cert course. Thank you to the teachers who accompanied them.

The Ploughing Championships

Last week a group of our fourth year students headed to the Ploughing Championships in Kildare. A collection of poets on the English Leaving Cert course have sourced their inspiration from rural life so this exhibition will certainly give the students an insight into the motivation behind these works. Thank you to Mr. Pat Hayes and Mr. Joe White who accompanied the students.

Pictured are students with Taoiseach Mr. Enda Kenny.

Language Awareness Week

This week is language awareness week in Coláiste Chiaráin. The purpose of this week is to heighten the students’ awareness of the traditions and cultures of Spain, France, Italy and Germany.
The students will participate in a range of activities including sampling examples of fine European cuisine, bi-lingual quizzes, films amd many more.
This annual event always proves to be a success and it certainly enhances the teaching of European languages in the school.
“The experience brings to life the key aspects of language studies within the school. We see great value in this week as it gives the students the opportunity to explore the extensive language programme available in Coláiste Chiaráin”, explained Sara Martinez, Head of Modern Languages, Coláiste Chiaráin.
