Open day & night

Coláiste Chiaráin will host its annual open day and open night on Tuesday 11th October 2011. The open day will give prospective students the opportunity to explore the school grounds, meet various staff members and experience some of the subjects offered within Coláiste Chiaráin. The students will be able to sample scientific experiments, play interactive games, witness the impressive technological facilities and experience some of the languages on offer in the school which include French, German, Italian and Spanish. Present music students within the school will be providing entertainment on the day which will feature singing, guitar playing and a “session” from the schools own traditional Irish music group.

The open night will be held in the South Court hotel Raheen this same night at 7.30 pm where parents and guardians will be given the chance to meet a variety of teachers and the management. The open night is a great way for parents and guardians to ask any questions they might have with regard to sending their children to Coláiste Chiaráin. All are welcome

Irish Schools MP Chamionships

Congatulations to Coláiste Chiaráin golfers Jack Ryan, Owen O’Brien, Dan Lucey and Colin O’Sullivan who were victorious in the regional qualifying section of the Munster School Matchplay Championships held recently at Adare Manor Golf Club. With over 22 schools participating in our region it was always going to be very tight and such it proved with our lads winning by a single stroke. All of the lads played very well to overcome some testing conditions with Colin O’Sullivan particularly impressing on the day with a terrific 5 over par score which proved to be invaluable. All of these lads were members of that talented team that won the Munster and All Ireland Bronze in 2010 so even though the team played well in Adare, they are certainly capable of even better cards and we look forward with optimism to the Munster final.

The ball was successful due to the hard work and dedication of all sixth year pupils, their Dean Mr. Cathal Fitzgerald, Mr. Mike Behan and his Assistant Deans, the debs committee and Headmaster Mr. Noel Malone and Deputy Mr. Gerard O Sullivan. Everybody looked spectacular and the guests were entertained by the popular Limerick band "Same Size Feet."

Anti-Bullying Awareness Week

Coláiste Chiaráin is in the middle of its annual “Anti-Bullying Awareness Week”. Coláiste Chiaráin takes a positive role in dealing with bullying issues. The school has a Personal Safety Board (P.S.B.) which is made up of 23 teachers who investigate any complaints. This team, which is coordinated by Ms. Mairead Murphy, has been in existence for over 7 years and has proved to be very helpful and successful in rectifying any bullying instances. Coláiste Chiaráin takes the issue of bullying very seriously and to have a team within the school to pay particular attention to this matter is excellent.

The school’s “Anti Bullying Awareness Week” consists of lesson plans dealing with the issue of bullying, video presentations, guest speaker (Humourfit theatre group), art and poetry competitions and a survey to be completed by students.
