Fourth years preparing well for Mini Company Competition!

Coláiste Chiaráin's fourth year business classes who are participating in the National Mini Company Competition, were given a talk by Gary Lowe today. Gary is a local entrepreneur and representative of county Limerick Enterprise Board. He spoke to them about their potential ideas and advised them on all aspects of running their own company. It was a very beneficial visit and Gary will return to the school at the end of November to give further advice and mentoring.

A sincere thank you to Mr. Lowe for his time!!

Anti-bullying awareness week

Congratulations to Sofia Rainey from Erasmus who won the Anti-Bullying Awareness Week art competition!!!! Her creation is pictured!! Congrats also to Will Fenlon from Giotto who won the poetry competition!!! Thanks to Ms. Mairead Murphy and her team for organising such a successful week!!

Sixth year parents evening

Thank you to Mr. Fitzgerald,  Mr. Galvin and Mr. Breslin who spoke to our sixth year parents in relation to studying, the CAO process as well as living through the Leaving Certificate on Tuesday 18th October. Thank you to all the parents who attended!

Congratulations to Jacqueline Hayes!!!

Coláiste Chairáin is delighted to announce that past pupil Jacqueline Hayes is a recipient of a 2011 JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship Third Level Education Award.

Jacqueline will be presented with her award by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, TD, and JP McManus, at a ceremony in the Concert Hall, University of Limerick on Saturday, November 19th.

Congratulations to Jacqueline and all her teachers for their efforts in her education over the past six years.

Southwest Regional Basketball Team

Congratulations to Coláiste Chiaráin pupils Adam Barry and Stephen O'Shea who have been named as part of the Southwest Regional Basketball team. Adam Barry has been named as Co Captain!!!! This weekend they will play in the All Ireland Inter Regional Basketball Competition.

We wish them both the best of luck and here's to the boys doing themselves and Coláiste Chiaráin proud!!

Competition Time!

News of four amazing competitions running at the moment:
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
National Mock Trial / Television / Newspaper reporter.
Competition: Doodle4Google
The Challenge: Design a logo for Google Ireland. You can use a computer OR paint/crayon/felt tip/pencil etc.
Entry Restrictions: Open to any age but the school can only enter the six best doodles.
The Prizes: 75 Notebook computers, Google Goody Bags, technology grant for the school.
Deadline: 9 December.

Competition: Rotary Youth Leadership - once in a lifetime experience on offer.
The Challenge: Fill out an application and attend an interview in the school to display your skills as a young leader.
Entry Restrictions: You must be 15 or over and you must have been under 18 by the end of February 2011.
The Prizes: Youth leadership training in Dublin & Belfast. Participation in the Euroscola Programme in at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. 25 students will represent Ireland and meet students from around the world.
Deadline: 1 November

The Challenge: Design a scratch game or animation
Entry Restrictions: The school can enter a maximum of 10 scratch projects.
The Prizes: €500 cash for the student or team of students that produce the best game & €500 for the best animation.
Deadline: 12th March 2012
Competition: National Mock Trial Competition - for the legal eagles!
The Challenge: Thee competions: 1: To win the mock trial following training from a qualified Barrister. Students will take on another school in a real courthouse judged by a panel of real court judges.
Competition 2: To be the best court reporter (write a newspaper article based on the mock trial.
Competition 3: Television Reporter: Record a report on the case on camera.
Entry Restrictions: The students must form a team and fund-raise / get sponsorship of €600. They must take part in one day law course in the school. The course will be delivered by a Barrister who has previously judged the competition. Afterwards the students will complete an exam which will be marked by qualified Barristers. The team will be selected based on feedback from the course and the teacher's opinion.
The Prizes: Winning Irish team go to New York to compete in the Word Schools Mock Trial Competition.
Deadline: If the school is entering a team must be formed by 14th November.
