Making The Most Of Talent

Academic study is important and we expect all our students to achieve high standards, but our view of education celebrates the creative, physical and spiritual as much as the intellectual.

Coláiste Chiaráin has a strong policy of actively promoting sporting opportunities among all our students. We include a range of full- contact team sports such as Gaelic Football (for boys and girls), Hurling, Rugby, Camogie, Soccer, Basketball and Hockey. The College

has competed successfully in Rugby, Gaelic Football and Hurling. To complement the area of top class leagues, we organize many internal class leagues in the areas of Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball. This allows maximum participation for all students. In 2004, Coláiste Chiaráin became an affiliated club of the Irish Amateur Rowing Union, IARU, (Rowing Ireland). Ours is the only college in the Mid- West who row competitively as a college and we are looking forward to developing the sport further into the future.

All junior cycle students receive timetabled Physical Education instruction, each week of term. The focus of our programme is on participation, regardless of skill level. Our facilities allow us to explore fully a huge range of physical activities. Most students discover new and exciting activities that stay with them in later life. We have access to a large indoor soccer / basketball arena, just off campus and also visit the new University of Limerick Sports Arena, on an ad hoc basis throughout the year, especially for swimming and water activities.

In the near future, we expect to be moving into our new fully equipped sports arena, which will be built as part of our new school campus. The college offers an extensive range of sporting activities from which students may choose, these include: Gaelic Games, Rugby, Soccer, Rowing, Hockey, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Outdoor Pursuits, Canoeing, Orienteering, Camogie, Equestrian Activities, Golf, Pitch and Putt, Badminton, Swimming, Life-Saving, Tennis, Squash and Surfing.
