Coláiste Chiaráin offers a distinctive balance: small classes, which give students a strong pastoral base, within a large, varied, challenging school.
To many people education means no more than studying for examinations. Preparing students for examinations is important but we believe that a balance must be maintained between imparting knowledge and educating for life. Here in Coláiste Chiaráin, we are committed to placing great importance in providing a comprehensive and innovative Career Guidance, Counselling and Pastoral Care programme for all our students. The pastoral care programme in our school is concerned with the personal, social and moral growth of the student and ranks in importance with the academic programme. Our Department of Future Planning is also concerned with the career needs and the development of our students and their capacity to understand, assess and make informed decisions about their education and career plans. Our pastoral care programme aims to infiltrate into the whole school life of our students and help them benefit extensively from their school experience.
The aims and objectives of our pastoral care programme are: to introduce to our students the necessary life skills and values that they will need to be able to function effectively and responsibly in society and to create a supportive and caring environment in which these skills and values can be nurtured.
Effective pastoral care in Coláiste Chiaráin is measured by the quality of the teacher-student interactions in all our curricular or co-curricular activities. The caring element is evident in the school’s approach to discipline, classroom teaching, evaluation, co- curricular activities, involvement with parents, community resources or even in the provision and use of school facilities. Caring therefore is part of the culture of our school, the work ethic of our teachers.
